A publisher just built an ad layer only AI crawlers can see

Time is serving ClaudeBot, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot a version of its pages carrying sponsored content human readers never load, with Ally Bank and the Project Management Institute as launch advertisers through adtech firm Mobian. The buy is not for impressions, it is for what the model repeats later.

Why it matters: Paying to sit inside a source the model already trusts is a cheaper visibility lever than earning the citation, and buyers will be asked about it long before anyone settles whether it counts as cloaking.

Marketers are funding AI visibility and refusing to measure it

82% now put budget against AI search, averaging 24% of search and content spend, but 71% do not track competitive share of voice, 70% do not track sentiment, and 67% never look at bot traffic. Spend is running about a year ahead of instrumentation.

Why it matters: If you are already spending here, the cheapest next move is instrumentation, not more content. Share of voice, sentiment and bot-traffic logs are the three most people are missing.

The channels that move AI visibility are not the ones agencies bill for

Branded mentions and YouTube impressions correlate with AI citations at 0.50 to 0.74 while backlinks and ad spend sit below 0.30, and consumer trust in AI search fell from 82% to 54% in a year. Earned attention is doing the work link budgets used to do.

Why it matters: It reframes GEO as brand and original-data investment rather than a link line item. Harder to sell into a quarterly plan, more durable once it lands.

Klaviyo bought an agent team instead of shipping an agent feature

Klaviyo acquired Agency, a 25-person AI customer-success startup that had raised $32M from Sequoia and Menlo, and installed founder Elias Torres as chief product officer, folding the team into its Composer assistant and post-purchase Customer Agent.

Why it matters: The email and lifecycle layer is consolidating agent capability inward. Your stack turns agentic by acquisition whether or not it was on the roadmap.

Google is closing the budget-cap loophole that made your tROAS look good

From August 17, budget-limited campaigns will optimize to the actual tCPA or tROAS you set instead of over-delivering because budget ran out, so accounts that have quietly been beating target will drift back toward it.

Why it matters: A dated action item. Audit any campaign where live performance diverges from the stated target before the rollout, because the slack you were harvesting by accident is about to be reclaimed.

Fake traffic is now outperforming real traffic on the signals your bidding trusts

IAS blocked 812 domains behind Papyrus, a scheme that hides browser windows inside novel-reading apps and fires synthetic clicks at AI-generated content sites, roughly $1M a month at peak. The tell is the performance: 25x click success rate, 4x eCPM and 13% higher attention scores than legitimate inventory.

Why it matters: Automated bidding optimizes toward whatever engages. Fraud that beats real traffic on engagement does not just waste budget, it retrains the algorithm to buy more of it.
